Maple Lake gets two new playgrounds
By Brenda Erdahl
Maple Lake munchkins will have two exciting new playgrounds to explore come the end of next week.
Staff from Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground were out last week assembling the new sets at the Maple Lake Community Park and Bolduan Park. By Monday, May 18, the playground at Bolduan was put together. Just the wood chips remained to be filled in around it. Joe Mead of Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground said his team should have the equipment in the Community Park ready for children by May 29, or so. Until everything is complete, caution tape will remain around both sets and will be closed to the public, he said.
The City of Maple Lake has been planning for this update for several years. The council has been putting away money – $33,000 a year – knowing the 40-year old playground in the Community Park would soon need replacing.
According to Maple Lake City Administrator Sabrina Hilel, the set, which was put in in the 1980s, had parts that were not in the best shape anymore and some citizens feared for the children’s safety.
